Start your day with an informative and engaging theory session where you'll learn everything you need to know about spring bulbs. We'll explore the different types of bulbs that thrive in our climate, the best times and spaces to plant them, and when they bloom.

Learn expert techniques such as lasagne layering for a continuous bloom and drift planting for a natural, effortless look in your garden. You'll also discover how to select bulbs that will provide continuous colour and interest throughout the entire season.

2. Hands-On Planting Experience

After the theory, it's time to get your hands dirty! Step outside and put your newfound knowledge into practice by planting bulbs around the beautiful grounds of The Goat House Retreat. Guided by our expert instructor, you'll gain practical experience in planting bulbs correctly to ensure a healthy, vibrant garden. This is your chance to learn by doing, ask questions, and refine your knowledge in a supportive, friendly environment.

 

3. Create Your Own Beautiful Planted Bulb Pot to Take Home

Not only will you learn how to plant bulbs in the ground, but you'll also get to plant your own pot of bulbs to take home, perfect for a sunny windowsill or patio table. Imagine the delight of watching your very own creation come to life with beautiful blooms in the spring!

Kick off the day with a warm welcome! Enjoy a cup of tea or coffee and indulge in some tasty treats.

10:30 AM: Theoretical Session – All About Bulbs

Get ready to dig into some gardening knowledge!

•       What are Bulbs? Learn about the different types of bulbs and their unique characteristics.

•       Growing Conditions: Discover where, when, and how to plant bulbs for the best results.

•       Planting Techniques: Learn about different planting techniques like lasagne layering and drift planting for stunning effects in your garden.

•       Dos and Don’ts: Avoid common mistakes and learn the best planting practices.

•       Maximizing Your Blooms: Tips and tricks for getting the most out of your bulbs throughout the season.

•       Aftercare Essentials: How to manage your bulbs once the season has ended to help them thrive the following year.

 

12:00 PM: Hands-On Planting Practice – Let’s Get Digging!

We’ll split into small groups and head out to our beautiful grounds to put theory into practice. You’ll get the chance to:

•       Drift Planting on the Lawn: Create a natural, flowing look with drifts of bulbs.

•       Layering in Half Barrels: Master the art of lasagne layering for continuous blooming.

•       Interspersing in a Raised Bed: Add vibrant colour to raised beds with strategically placed bulbs.

•       Planting in Shady and Pond Areas: Try your hand at wild bulb planting in these tricky spots.

 

1:00 PM: Lunch Break – Relax and Refuel!

Take a break, relax, and enjoy a delicious lunch with your new friends, share your gardening experiences, and swap tips with fellow participants.

 

2:00 PM: Continue planting bulbs

 

3.00 PM: Plant Your Own Pots!

Roll up your sleeves for one last planting session! You’ll get to create your very own layered pot of bulbs to take home. This personalized project is perfect for adding a pop of spring colour to your windowsill or patio. You’ll be thrilled to watch your creation come to life in the coming months!

 

3:45 PM: Wrap-Up and Farewell

We’ll wrap up the day with a quick review and a chance to ask any final questions. Say goodbye to your new gardening friends and leave with fresh ideas, new skills, and a beautiful potted bulb arrangement to enjoy at home!

 

What you’ll need to wear & bring:

  • Wear layers to allow you to adapt to inside and outside temperatures during the activities

  • Sturdy waterproof shoes – Wellies are ideal but bring indoor shoes to change into

  • Warm waterproof coat

  • Gardening gloves

  • Notebook & pen
